Thirayattam is a tribal art form that blends dance, acting, songs, instrumental music, face painting, martial arts, and rituals. Its distinct rituals, vibrant costumes, and artistic performances set it apart from other art forms. Typically performed in courtyards called kaavukal (sacred groves) within village shrines in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts, the dance is accompanied by traditional instruments like the chenda melam and is illuminated by warm lighting, enhancing the spiritual and cultural atmosphere.
